Specialty Painting News About Recent Projects

We have had a busy, amazing winter & spring with a series of fascinating new projects. We have new murals with Renaissance Homes, New Haven Homes, conservation work on a gorgeous David Craig mural done sometime in the 60’s for Patricia Bodwell here in New Mexico, logos for Rio Rancho High School & much, much more. Pics soon.

In May, 2009, we completed a project for Bernalillo County Public Works Department, Albuquerque, New Mexico, for a series of trompe l’oeil panels along Rio Grande Blvd. in Ranchos de Albuquerque. We worked with Lisa Manwill, Project Engineer, and Casey Thompson of New Mexico Underground in conjunction with Ranchos de Albuquerque residents and village officials. The project went very well and the response from everyone has been great.

In June, 2009, we were recommended by Yvonne and Wilfred Padilla for an extensive renovation project Father Lancaster of the Sangre de Christo Catholic Church was completing for his congregation on Candelaria Road NE, in Albuquerque. Father Lancaster was very clear about what he wanted. The mural should be an “iconic” image of Christ’s crucifixion with a strong emphasis on the “sangre de Christo,” the blood of Christ, in the context of the Host & the Chalis. “Working” angels would be “escorting” the crucified Christ to heaven. Hands down, this is perhaps the most interesting project Specialty Painting has done in a very, very long time. The mural was done on canvas in the studio and then taken to the church and installed. Father Lancaster visited the studio nearly every day and participated in every stage of the mural’s development.

During the blessing of the renovated church, Archbishop Sheehan from the Archdiocese of Santa Fe blessed our mural as well. Everything about this project was fascinating. It was a particular pleasure working with Father Lancaster.
