About Specialty Painting...
Specialty Painting was created by Jean Kempinsky in 1993. She was joined by Richard Overfield in 1998. She graduated from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1980. Starting at C.B.C. (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation), she worked as a scenic painter for their productions which was followed by 15 years of work in the Canadian film industry as a Scenic Painter, Standby Painter and scenic sculptor. Learning from a faux finisher down the hall from her studio, she began to put together a business involving paint finishes, scenic painting skills and her fine arts background. Richard Overfield met Jean Kempinsky as a student when he was teaching at Emily Carr College of Art & Design, in Vancouver, Canada. After graduating in 1970 from Arizona State University with a BA in English, he did Graduate work at University of Washington. During this time, he decided to work full time as an artist. His paintings have been exhibited widely across the U.S., Canada & in Europe. His work can be found in over 300 private & public collections. Over time, Jean & Richard decided that murals & fine arts related skills would be given strong emphasis in the services Specialty Painting offered. Over the last 14 years, Specialty Painting has evolved & perfected itself in Jean's hands. It is the result of the efforts of two painters who bring a variety of skills to the client. They both possess an extensive background in art history, fine art painting, scenic painting for theater and film and faux finishing. Between Jean & Richard, they possess a total of 87 years experience in the visual arts. As a result, the range of possibilities Specialty Painting makes available to clients is truly spectacular.
